FAQ
You've got questions, we've got answers.
However, what constitutes a “normal” pH level can vary slightly based on your stage of life.
For example, during your reproductive years (ages 15 to 49), your vaginal pH should be below or
equal to 4.5.
This product works by replenishing normal vaginal
acidity and balancing vaginal flora (helpful bacteria). Vaginal boric acid is a homeopathic medicine
used to treat vaginal yeast infections and relieve symptoms such as burning, itching, and odor.
Boric acid naturally occurs in the environment. It can be found in soil, water, and plants.
Usually results will be seen in 1-7 days.
We recommend using one suppository as needed at bedtime. For extreme odor you can use one suppository
every 12 hours for 7 days.
We recommend avoiding having sexual intercourse while you are treating a vaginal infection.
Disclaimer: Vaginal boric acid will not prevent an infection from spreading to your partner.
This medicine will not treat or prevent sexually transmitted disease.
Intravaginal boric acid has been used for over a hundred years to treat vaginal infections, such
as bacterial vaginosis. Boric acid is inexpensive, accessible, and has shown to be an effective
treatment for other infections, such as vaginal candidiasis.
There's no way for men to get BV. However, experts aren't as sure about whether men can spread BV
to female partners. Women can develop BV regardless of whether they're sexually active. But sexually
active women do have a higher riskof developing bacterial vaginosis.
BV typically causes discharge that's thin and gray or yellow. A yeast infection causes discharge that is
thick and white, with a cottage-cheese type appearance. BV is associated with a foul, “fishy” vaginal odor,
while most women don't notice an odor with a yeast infection.
Because BV is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina, your natural hormonal changes as well as the
high pH of your menstrual blood can trigger an infection. But once your hormones have adjusted after your
period, it may resolve your BV symptoms as well.
Most often, BV does not
cause other health problems. However, if left untreated, BV may increase your risk for: Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV. Pelvic inflammatory disease where BV bacteria infect
the uterus or fallopian tubes.
Bacterial vaginosis usually clears up in 2 or 3 days with antibiotics, but treatment goes on for 7 days.
Do not stop using your medicine just because your symptoms are better. Be sure to take the full course of
antibiotics. Antibiotics usually work well and have few side effects.
